Vígdis Sigmundardóttir has been drawing and painting a lot; as a child, her family did the same!
She is a daughter of the late artist Sigmund Petersen. Vígdis has the last many years been preoccupied with paper collages and is very fond of this way of working.
Vígdis is an educated nurse and interior decorator; she has attended a considerable amount of courses in artwork in The Faroe Islands and Denmark.
Vígdis is self-taught concerning the techniques she uses in her artwork. She goes into the field of light and shadow and her favorite is when the sun has made shadows to give a deep perspective in the landscape. When perspective, colours and the composition in the sketch are satisfying, the cutting can begin. She uses acid free paperboard, Pritt glue sticks and she cuts with scissors and knife and tears the paper into shape.
Vígdis has her own working technique and is usually inspired by the magnificent Faroese nature.
She ventured into the universe of the chanting when she was invited to exhibit her works in an exposition in Førde near Bergen (Norway). She was inspired by the Norwegian history told in the song of Ormurin Langi (The Long Worm/Dragon/Serpent). After the exhibition ten of the pictures were published on Faroese stamps in 2006.
